Circling
[Small Group Authentic Relating & Self-Discovery]

E. Brunswick. Sun 24 Feb
1.00-4.30pm
[$35 Earlybird, $45 Standard]

Circling is a presence & curiosity based self-development process that is very well-known in the US 'authentic-relating' networks, and newly becoming known in Australia even though it's been around for years. Not therapy, but extremely effective self-transformation work and presence/intuition training.

On the Spot Circling is an applied (and very slightly more informal) version of Circling. It goes just as deep, but in interestingly different ways. Another excellent way to develop presence, intuition and relational skills.

Spiral Events: Experiential 'Authentic Relating/Expression' and 'Contemporary Tantra' workshops - for the Pleasure of Self-Discovery (facilitating magic in Melbourne since 2006)

We offer:
  • Practical, fun and experiential self-discovery through transformational and interactive Authentic Relating and Contemporary Tantra (and related) events;
  • Facilitated, non-pressured, opportunities for expansion through direct experience (rather than by over-complex techniques);
  • Simple (yet remarkably rich) conscious practices, to explore sensing and engaging more fully with others, open our natural skills in expressing and relating easily and organically. (This is a neglected 'secret' that a lot of teachers don't mention).

'Authentic Expression' is the chance to engage with others in fun, real, satisfying and interesting connections for self-development, and relationship skills. (Not some obscure intellectual hard-work.)
  • Everything we offer actually falls under this broad heading. Whether it's the fun 'Improv Games' night, the fascinating self-discovery of 'Masks & Mirrors', or one of our specific Tantra events.
  • Something very magical and transformational occurs when we are just present with each other.
  • More than two decades of immersive studies in various branches of how to be more real and open allows us to offer some unique perspectives.

'Tantra' is often perceived and presented as having a somewhat 'inaccessible mystique'. Yet Contemporary Tantra doesn't need to be mysterious or complicated:
  • Authentic connections & reflections are naturally powerful forces of personal transformation.
  • 'Presence' isn't a vague concept, but something practical that can be easily learned; and
  • 'Subtle Energy' isn't a 'woo woo' Eastern abstraction, but our natural sensory capacity to engage in tangible and beautiful ways.

Osho once said: "If you are too technique-oriented you will miss the mystery of Tantra. It is pseudo-Tantra ... because if techniques are there, ego will be there, controlling."

Our take on that is two-fold:
  • Any techniques & practices need to be a pathway to the truth, not the truth themselves.
  • Overly complex techniques are not necessary in order to journey deeply into the authenticity and beauty of relating and into who you truly are. (In fact, they can sometimes get in the way.)

Behind the Scenes

  • Arven's background (the pragmatic North of England) gives him a solidly practical approach to all he has studied and everything he presents. (You won't find the 'Tantra guru' style here.) He is a qualified Transpersonal Counselor, former Victorian co-ordinator & assistant with ISTA (International School of Temple Arts), 'Urban Tantra' graduate, and former Foundations teacher with 'Meisner Melbourne'. He has been teaching & coaching Authentic Relating, Contemporary Tantra, and Acting/Improv in Melbourne since 2006. He was also co-founder and key-designer of the Evolving Man (transpersonal menswork) evening series, day events and weekends from 2009-2014.

  • Experiential small-group workshops, and participants/crew engage in circle style rather than 'classroom' format. (Paradoxically, as a natural facilitator, Arven is more introvert than extrovert, and values deep-core development far above flashy performance.)

  • Deep and fascinating (but non-pressured) practices. Engage with others on your resilient edge of expansion. Encounter and integrate your own unique abilities, and resources.

  • The transformational magic of rich and real human relating is often neglected by common media portrayal of life. The over-focus on performance and conditioned expectation rather than on genuine quality disconnects us from our depths.

  • Down-to-earth, fun and fascinating exercises that reconnect us to the subtle and the unfamiliar, and ground this new awareness as learning in the body. New windows to know and show the real you behind your masks. Plus learn how to more deeply feel and 'get' others.

  • These events evolved from the synthesis of a range of inter-related disciplines. Primarily Neo-Tantra, Shamanic Tantra, and Transpersonal Psychology. Plus influences from the 'Slow Sex' (Yin Intimacy) approach to Tantra, Transformational Therapy, Psychodrama, Expressive Arts Therapy, David Deida, and the Meisner (authenticity-based) acting technique.

We are committed to making this work available. If finances are ever literally the only reason you wouldn't come along and try out one of our events, please contact us (SpiralEvents00@gmail.com) and we will do our best to work something out.

Participant Feedback:

  • “Very experiential, very playful and very accepting of where everyone is in that particular moment. I always come away feeling more comfortable dwelling within my own body and more confident in relating authentically with other people. I'm looking forward to more.”  CM (Contracts Analyst)

  • “A beautiful afternoon , the softness, the warmth , the safe space enabled me to stay in my raw feelings without running away from them.”  GR (Intimacy Coach)

  • "Well facilitated, ethical, and fun. ...A nice, natural flow of activities and enough attention paid to safety and boundaries, which meant that the work could go quite deep. Exercises were fun, but also kept me on my learning edge, in a good balance.”  RB (Management Services)

  • "The facilitators are very authentic, sincere & courageous. I think that enables me to be brave…. to be who I always imagined I’d be. The content can be confronting but it enables me to fully embrace who I am. Probably the best payoff is that I feel fulfilled & carry with me those moments that I shared in your workshops.”  CW (Sales Executive)

  • "A juicy and high caliber workshop where I could explore my boundaries authentically while daring to extend my edges. A seamless fusion of partnered and group processes, with flavours spanning playful, heartfelt and deep, that allowed me to experience profound insight and connection. Simply beautiful!"  KM (Yoga Teacher)

  • “What a wonderful afternoon... thank you for facilitating the workshop. What a lovely collection of people too! I look forward to the next one.”  MJ (Musician)
